Alpaca rugs
-
Alpaca Fur Rugs are made by hand in a thousand year old tradition in Peru, the Artisan combines the warmth of natural furs with modern motives to produce a tastefully unique luxury for the home. Whether used as a rug, a bedspread, or a wall hanging of your own design, you'll have something that will be in the family for generations.
Individual Alpaca pelts are carefully selected for color, texture, and the fine natural shadings best suited for the chosen design; then cut to fit the field definitions in the design. Exacting attention is paid to the nuances carried by the tones and shadings of each piece in the final composition
Care instructions :
We recommend the following method to clean and freshen our Alpaca rugs.
- Lightly cover the entire piece with pure cornstarch or baby powder.
Hang it outside for a couple of hours, preferably in the sun.
Brush thoroughly with any type of hair brush until the powder is totally absorbed.
- Shake thoroughly, If necessary, repeat the process and your piece will be totally revitalized.
DO NOT LAUNDER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Any spill should be immediately covered with some type of household powder (salt, baking soda, flour, etc.) to absorb the spill. After it is dry, simply follow the instructions above and it will be as good as new.
Are Alpaca killed for their fur?
Please note that the alpaca animals are not killed for their pelt but have died a natural death. There is also an economic reason for this; alpacas, which have a lifespan of 20-25 years, are too valuable for their wool to be killed for their fur. Alpacas are also known as the 'sheep of the Andes' and are a source of livelihood for poor communities.
